The chin can be reshaped with chin surgeries also known as mentoplasty. This reshaping (enlargement or reduction) operation is done with interventions in the jawbone or with placement of an implant on the bone. Plastic surgeons may recommend chin surgery to patients who want to have rhinoplasty, in order to achieve the right facial proportions. Disproportionality in the chin may also cause the size of the nose to be perceived wrong.
This surgery is done under general or local anesthesia, and usually takes about 30 minutes to one hour. Since the surgery is performed through a small incision made inside the mouth our under the chin, it is not likely to leave a noticeable scar. It is possible to return to normal activities within a week after the surgery; however, appearance of the exact chin structure may delay for a period up to one month, due to swelling.
