Blepharoplasty

Blepharoplasty is a procedure that involves the removal of excess skin, muscle and fat tissues from the upper and lower eyelids or reshaping these tissues. With this surgery, drooping lids as well as excessive puffiness and wrinkles can be eliminated. Thus, the features in your face that make you look older and tired disappear. Moreover, in cases of advanced deformities, the vision gets better after surgery. This procedure is not effective in the removal of crow’s feet and in lifting sagging eyebrows. Forehead lift surgery or other surgical procedures can be performed for these wrinkles (Botox, filling materials, etc.). Blepharoplasty can be applied alone and in combination with some other surgical procedures such as forehead lift and face lift.

Who are Suitable for Blepharoplasty?

This surgery will be useful in terms of both the improvement of your external appearance and self-confidence.

Anyone who is physically healthy, who has no psychological problems, and who has realistic expectations can be a suitable candidate for this surgical procedure. The majority of patients who apply for a surgery are over 35 years of age; however, those who have droopy, baggy or wrinkled eyelids at an earlier age can also have a medical operation.

Surgery

When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, blepharoplasty poses almost no complication risk.

Surgery is usually performed under local anesthesia, but general anesthesia can be chosen if the patient wants.

Blepharoplasty may take up to one to three hours, depending on the region to be operated. Since incisions to be made during surgery will be in natural lines, the surgery is not likely to leave any scar.

Usually there is no need to apply bandage after surgery. Cold compresses can be applied with intent to reduce swelling. Temporary bruising may appear around the eyes, but they disappear within one to two weeks. The sutures are removed after a certain period of time, no later than one week.

After two to three days after surgery, you can easily watch television and read books. If you use contact lenses, you must not use them for two weeks after surgery.

The younger and more dynamic appearance that you will gain after surgery will be life lasting.
